If you are looking for first-class equipment for races from 500 to 750 km you have to be in East & West Flanders. These two provinces in Belgium simply have the best pigeons on national flights of 500 to 800 km.
A very special blow with exceptional pigeons is the insider tip Nikolas Dobbelaere from Oedelem in West Flanders, who specializes in these races (500-800 km). Why a very special blow? Because he still owns the old Van Loon, which also fly excellently at these distances.
Nikolas knew how to shape the old Van Loon pigeons (via his friend Schoors-De Waele, East Flanders) with his old De Montauban variety (Ludo Claessen-Blut) into a strain that is second to none. Although Nikolas is under pressure as the sales manager of an office furniture company and therefore has little time for his pigeons, he always manages to shine on long-haul flights at national level.
The best example of this is the white raven “Double Ace” B14-3049856, which was classified twice as an AS pigeon KBDB long distance and is one of the best pigeons in Belgium that has ever flown this distance.
His pedigree shows Nikolas’ successful breeding route:
Inbreeding Van Loon B11-4087853 with inbred Montauban B10-3032702 this was the key to success.
Everything that fell out of this mating is not to be weighed with gold. Whether Double ACE, De Limousine, Nestbruder Limousine to list just a few cracks, all top pigeons can fly the unlikely top on the national flights of 500 – 750 km.
In the meantime, other breeders have found their way to Oedelem to fortify themselves with these old Van Loon pigeons.
